Crisis responds to the Conservative announcement that stamp duty will increase to help tackle rough sleeping

In response to the Conservative announcement that stamp duty will be raised by 3% across England, on properties bought by non-UK residents, to help tackle rough sleeping Jon Sparkes, Crisis Chief Executive, said: "We warmly welcome the Conservative announcement to fund a drive to tackle rough sleeping. It’s simply wrong that anyone is forced to live on our streets, where people are exposed to everything from sub-zero temperatures to violence and abuse.
“But this commitment needs to be part of a wider plan to ensure that people aren’t being pushed into homelessness in the first place. We need to see all parties commit to ending all forms of homelessness so that no one has to face the indignity of being without a home. This means restoring housing benefit so it truly covers the cost of rent and building more social homes across the country. Only when all these measures are in place will we be able to end homelessness once and for all.”
