A Million Acts of Hope

A week of connection, creativity and community

In May 2026, Crisis joined hundreds of organisations across the UK for A Million Acts of Hope

During the Week of Hope, our Skylights, shops, offices and services, staff, members, volunteers and supporters came together in joyful and meaningful ways to share messages of hope, creativity and connection.

From art workshops and music sessions to partner events, volunteering days and community celebrations, the campaign reminded us that hope is something we build together.

It was a week that not only showcased our spirit within Crisis, but also connected us to a wider movement of hopeful acts happening across the UK.

Oxford: Creativity, Music and Shared Stories

At Crisis Skylight Oxford, the Hidden Spire Collective — a creative arts group made up of current and former members alongside members of the public — came together to celebrate the campaign through art, photography and music.

Working collaboratively with the Old Fire Station, the group created hopeful visual messages inspired by artists Gillian Wearing and Corita Kent. The workshop produced a series of striking images and reflections exploring what hope means to different people.

Members from the cooking class prepared a shared buffet for everyone attending, creating space for conversation and connection over food. Meanwhile, the music group composed and performed an original hope-themed song during Crisis-facilitated workshops.

London Skylight: A visible symbol of collective hope

Crisis Skylight London marked the campaign with the creation of a stunning Garland of Hope displayed in the reception area. Developed through collaboration between members, visiting artist Yorgos, and our arts tutor, the installation celebrates collective strength, creativity and optimism. Featuring colourful shapes of hands and heads, the garland reflects the idea that hope grows when people come together.

Staff, members and visitors were also invited to contribute their own reflections through the Wall of Hope, sharing messages via post-its, bunting and tags. Alongside this, art classes explored the theme of hope, with members writing personal narratives and creating artwork.

Croydon: Messages of Hope Through Art

At our Croydon Skyight, staff, volunteers and members created a collaborative artwork exploring what hope means to them. The piece is displayed in reception to welcome and inspire everyone entering the building.

Brent: Growing Hope Together

Staff and members at Brent created a collaborative collage and planted an olive tree in the Skylight garden as a lasting symbol of hope and renewal.

Merseyside: Celebrating Supporters

In Merseyside, three young supporters raised an incredible £220 at their primary school because they believe no one should be without a home.

Crisis Shop: a Window into Hope

In our Crisis charity shops, customers and supporters added their own messages of hope to in-store displays and the shop windows.

Our Crisis offices: Cake and Connection

Crisis staff wrote messages of hope onto bunting displayed throughout our offices and came together for a 'cake and connect' moment.

Christmas Warehouse: Preparing for the Future

Our amazing volunteers spent time in our Warehouse preparing arts and crafts materials for Christmas guests later this year — a reminder that acts of hope often happen quietly behind the scenes.

Birmingham Skylight

A dedicated Hope Wall invited reflection and shared messages.

Newcastle Skylight

Hosted a migrant rights partnership event, open mic night, and staff volunteering day.

South Wales Skylight (Y Storfa)

Delivered creative art workshops centred on hope.

“Days like this are a reminder that hope isn't a one-off. It's built in the connections we make, the stories we share, and the people who keep showing up — and that's what we carry forward.”
— Sylwia Parr, Volunteer and Involvement Lead in Merseyside

Carrying hope forward

Across Crisis, we were able to highlight the creativity, compassion and commitment that exists within our communities every day. Whether through conversations, artwork, volunteering, music, food or shared stories, each act helped strengthen the sense of connection that sits at the heart of our work.

Whether through the connections we make, the creativity we share, or the support we offer one another, hope remains at the heart of what we do.

Thank you to everyone who took part, contributed, supported and shared hope throughout the week.
