Join our campaign to end all forms of homelessness in Scotland by 2040.
Join the campaignScotland has strong rights in place for people experiencing homelessness. But more people are being forced from their homes every week.
The upcoming election in May 2026 is our chance to change this. Scotland can end all forms of homelessness by 2040 – we just need a bold commitment and the political will to act.
By doing this, we can create a country where everyone has a safe and stable home. A society that’s thriving because we can all take better care of our health, relationships and work. We can end homelessness for good.
The election is our chance to tell political parties across Scotland they need to act. Because getting our vote will depend on it.
Scotland already has a plan to deliver enough housing for everyone by 2040, but that alone will not be enough to end homelessness. We need to combine plans to build enough houses with changes to public services, so that people at risk of homelessness get the help they need, when they need it. Over three parliaments, we can put in place the measures needed to end homelessness by 2040, and make sure it doesn’t come back.
By basing that commitment in law, we can make sure it stands the test of time, so that future governments keep working to deliver.
Homelessness can be ended in Scotland by 2040 by:
Expanding social housing in Scotland is essential to tackling the housing emergency and preventing homelessness. A lack of secure, affordable homes in Scotland forces many people into temporary accommodation, overcrowded homes or unsafe living conditions.
Increasing the supply of social homes would provide stability for families, reduce pressure on local services and help keep rents at sustainable levels.
To end homelessness in Scotland by 2040, we need to build over 15,000 genuinely affordable homes each year for the next five years. But ending homelessness is not just about housing supply. It also means preventing homelessness wherever possible and making sure people have the right support to stay in their homes.
The Scottish elections in 2026 come at a critical time in Scotland’s housing emergency. People in Scotland continue to face rapidly rising rents and a shortage of homes, with increasing numbers facing homelessness across the country.
On 7 May 2026, Scotland will hold the seventh Scottish Parliament election of the devolution era. This election is a key moment to secure a cross-party commitment to end homelessness and ensure long-term solutions are put in place.
As we approach this Scottish election, we want all political parties to commit to ending all forms of homelessness in Scotland by 2040. Homelessness can be ended, but only with the right political action. If that commitment is made, we can take real steps towards building a nation where everyone has a safe and secure home of their own.
As voters, we have an opportunity to demand urgent action that prioritises prevention, strengthens housing rights and delivers the homes people need. Getting our vote should depend on it.
