Crisis Skylight Merseyside gets a UNIQLO glow-up

Crisis’s support centre for people experiencing homelessness in Merseyside has been transformed by volunteers from Liverpool’s Uniqlo store, who refurbished the centre’s CALM (Clothing and Living Materials) space and Female care corner.

Uniqlo staff, alongside volunteers from visual merchandising firm BRIGHT LEAF, redesigned, painted and decorated an area of the centre dedicated for usage by people experiencing homelessness. The CALM space offers Merseyside members the chance to browse and select donated clothing and homeware items for free, including Uniqlo clothing donations and female sanitary items.

Prior to our partnership with Uniqlo, the CALM areas were looking lacklustre and in desperate need of some TLC. With the support of our incredible corporate volunteers, our members have been provided with a safe and welcoming space, filled with quality items that show them they matter.

Andre Nobre, Visual Merchandising Manager at Uniqlo, said of the project:

I'm thrilled to share the transformation we achieved with the CALM room at Crisis Skylight Merseyside. I’m always happy to participate in projects where I can help and support other in need! What once felt like a storage space is now a fresh, welcoming environment. We wanted to create a space that feels more like a shopping experience, where everyone can feel valued and respected. I look forward to see the positive impact on the community and to seeing how this space continues to serve those in need.

Sylwia Parr, Volunteering and Involvement Lead at Skylight Merseyside, said:

Seeing our members walk into the transformed CALM room and Female Care Corner is truly inspiring. Thanks to the time, skills, and care of Uniqlo and Bright Leaf volunteers, we now have a space that shows people experiencing homelessness that they are valued and respected. This project is a perfect example of the difference corporate volunteering can make – creating environments that give dignity, choice, and confidence to our members.

Thank you so much to our friends at Uniqlo and BRIGHT LEAF; we can’t wait to continue our work together over the coming months.
