Specsavers’ Charity VIP Scheme: Supporting better health for people experiencing homelessness
Last updated: 01.10.2026
As we move into our fifth year of partnership we’re delighted to celebrate the launch of the Specsavers’ Charity VIP scheme, an important new initiative designed to help people experiencing homelessness access essential eye and hearing care.
For many people facing homelessness, accessing appropriate healthcare can be challenging. Eye and hearing problems can easily go untreated, affecting confidence, communication, mobility and the ability to manage everyday life. Poor vision in particular can make it harder to read information, navigate unfamiliar environments, access services or secure employment and housing.
Specsavers’ Charity VIP scheme will help remove some of these barriers by providing those affected by homelessness with access to free eye and hearing care through Specsavers. This can include essential tests, advice and appropriate products or support - helping people to take greater control of their health and wellbeing.
The benefits also go beyond better sight and hearing, as early intervention can help identify health concerns, improve independence and reduce the risk of problems becoming more serious. For someone already facing the challenges of homelessness, having access to reliable healthcare can make a meaningful difference to their confidence, dignity and quality of life.
Expert by experience, Dimple Rama received her Charity VIP test said,
“I was told I needed glasses when I was younger, and I knew my eyesight wasn't great, but I just got by without them because I had to focus on other things like finding accommodation and putting food on the table. Many people don't realise that when you're homeless, being able to go to an optician can feel like a luxury.”
