Mark's Monster Triathlon

Last week, Crisis supporter, Mark, swam, cycled and ran from Loch Ness to London in 7 days in an epic Monster Triathlon to raise £2,351 to help end homelessness. He tells us more.

"In 2018, I ran the London Marathon in aid of Crisis, the same year we were moving house. I know I am incredibly lucky to have a roof over my head, but so many people experiencing homelessness don't, which is why I wanted to support such a great charity that helps to end homelessness.

"I've also completed a few Ironman triathlons over the year, but nothing on such a mammoth scale.

"I took part in this Monster Triathlon to set a good example to my two boys; to help them understand homelessness but also how staying fit and health is so important for looking after your mental health.

"The Monster Triathlon is a seven-day challenge which begins with a 5km swim in Loch Ness, followed by a 1000km cycle to Windsor and then a 50km ultra marathon into Central London.

"It was a really amazing experience. It was tough at times, but there always seemed to be a stunning view at the top of a steep climb. That kept me going.

"The final day - the 30 mile ultra marathon - was lovely, until mile 26. I've done marathons before but who knew the additional 4 miles would be so hard. I guess the 1000km bike ride wasn't the best prep!

"I'm incredibly grateful for the donations and messages of support - they really kept me going in 7-degree water of Loch Ness when my toes had gone numb, when my legs were struggling to push me up another hill and when my feet couldn't take any more blisters."
