Yasmin's story

At 50, Yasmin's life changed overnight. When new management came into her permanent government job in Oxford, she was given just two weeks' notice. With only enough money for one more month's rent and a landlord who wouldn't accept housing benefit, she had nowhere to turn.

Within weeks, Yasmin was experiencing hidden homelessness. She spent her first night awake in a shopping centre, fearful and exhausted. Desperate for sleep, she bought a coach ticket to London and back — just to close her eyes for a few hours.

Yasmin came to the Crisis Skylight in Oxford, where she met Will, her Crisis Lead Worker. Will found her emergency accommodation within hours. He supported her through the housing paperwork, and when Yasmin found a landlord willing to accept housing benefit, Crisis covered her first month's rent until her benefits came through.

"I'll never forget that first bed — it felt like the best sleep of my life." Yasmin, former Crisis member

Today, Yasmin has her own room in a safe, stable home. She is job-seeking, budgeting independently, and looking to the future with hope.

Her story is one of thousands made possible by supporters like you. Together, we can help more people experiencing homelessness and enable them to rebuild.

By sharing stories we can change attitudes and build a movement for permanent, positive change. Stand against homelessness and help us end it for good.
